Jyothi Surekha Vennam is a renowned Indian archer. She has been in the news because she advanced to the women’s compound individual event semifinals at the Asian Games after a decisive victory in the quarterfinals.

She was born in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India, on 3 July 1996. Vennam Surendra Kumar is her father, while Sri Durga is her mother. Her mother is a homemaker, and her father, a former kabaddi player, is now a veterinarian.

Jyothi Surekha Vennam completed her schooling at Nalanda Institute. Later, she also attended KL University.

She is currently 27 years old.

Her career

Jyothi Surekha Vennam made news at the young age of 4 when she crossed the Krishna River three times in three hours, twenty minutes, and six seconds, earning her a place in the Limca Book of Records. She won three silver medals (50m, 40m, and 20m) and a bronze medal (20m) in the Mexican Grand Prix by the time she was 13 years old, along with an Olympic round gold medal.

At the Asian Archery Championships in 2011, she improved her tally with two bronze medals. At the Pennsylvanian Lancaster Archery Classic in January 2022, Jyothi won the Women’s Open Pro competition.

Her achievements were duly recognized in 2017 when Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu awarded her Rs. 1 crore and a housing site for winning the Arjuna Award, making her the youngest recipient in South India and the first recipient in post-bifurcation.
