Everyone was pleased by Dhiraj Bommadevara who on Thursday placed fourth in the men’s archery ranking round of the Paris Olympics 2024. Dhiraj Bommadevara put in an amazing effort to lead India to the team event quarterfinals and make a late leap in the rankings.

22-year-old Dhiraj Bommadevara was born on Sep 3, 2001. He is 5ft 11in tall.  Dhiraj Bommadevara is from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The Archery Association of India’s technical official is his father, Bommadevara Shravan Kumar. He completed his degree program at Vijayawada’s SRR and CVR Government Degree College.

In the recurve men’s archery event, he is ranked 15th in the World Rankings.

In 2006, he began archery at the Vijayawada-based Volga Archery Academy. After completing four years of training at the Army Sports Institute in Pune, he enlisted in the Army in 2021 with the rank of Havaldar.

Dhiraj Bommadevara career

Dhiraj Bommadevara was chosen to compete for India in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China in 2022. He competed for the Indian Men’s Recurve team at the 2022 Asian Games, where he won the silver medal alongside Atanu Das and Tushar Shelke. In the end, they were defeated by Republic of Korea.

Apart from the mixed team event, he competed for India in the men’s team and individual events at the 2023 World Championships in Berlin, Germany. He participated in the Men’s team and Men’s individual World Cup competitions in Antalya, Turkey, as well as the Men’s team, Men’s individual, and Mixed team competitions in Paris, France, and Shanghai, China.

He has already beaten Tokyo Olympian Tarundeep Rai in the Hyderabad Ranking competition earlier in January 2022. He took home a bronze in the men’s individual competition at the 2021 World Cups in Paris, France, and Guatemala City, Guatemala.

With a score of 681, he finished fourth in the men’s individual ranking round at his first Olympics in Paris in 2024. This performance helped the Indian men’s team, which included Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav, place third in the men’s team ranking round. It also allowed the mixed team, which included Ankita Bhakat, to place fifth in the ranking round.
