Ankita Bhakat was born to parents Shantanu Bhakat, who works as a milkman, and his wife Shila Bhakat.
Career and achievements
Ankita started out her archery journey at the young age of 10, training at the Calcutta Archery Club. She later joined the Archery Academy in Jamshedpur in 2014. She trained under the guidance of coaches like Ram Awadesh, Purnima Mahato, and Dharmendra Tiwari. Ankita Bhakat gained prominence last year after winning a bronze medal as part of the Indian team in the women’s team recurve event at the 2023 Asian Games.
Just last month, Bhakat secured her spot in the Paris 2024 Olympics after reaching the quarterfinals at the World Archery Olympic Qualifier 2024 in Antalya, Turkey. Despite suffering a loss to Iran’s Mobina Fallah in the final eight, Bhakat had previously won over Shelley Hilton, Mikaella Moshe, and Gabrielle Monica Bidaure. The three wins were enough to secure her a spot in the knockout stages.
