For those who are unversed, let us tell you, back on December 11, 2022, netizens witnessed a never seen before moment in the history of Women’s cricket matches in India as everyone saw a sign board at Wankhede Stadium’s gate.
The signboard which reads, “Stadium full, tickets over,” as India played against Australia in the T20 Series, changed the entire scenario towards women’s cricket matches in India.

This signifies the popularity of netizens amongst women’s cricket in the past few years after overwhelming stories of young girls carved their ways from small corners of the nation to earn a spot in the national team.
One such story is that of Archana Devi, who’s a young cricketer whose journey is about finding her ground started when she participated in a regular race at school in her village.
If you’re unsure, let us clear, the all rounder bowler from Kanpur had a time in her life when she wasn’t even able to afford a cricketing kit let alone training.
To earn a spot in India A-Team, now she is all geared up to represent India at U19, T20 World Cup.
Archana whose full name is Archana Shivram Devi, was born in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh on September 07, 2004. The 18-year-old lost her father at a very young age due to cancer and sister after a snake bit her. Poonam is a Hindu and is unmarried.
However, her mother Sarita Devi who is farmer made sure that Archana hot her basic education as she enrolled her in a local school.
During one of the school races in which Archana participated her teacher, Poonam Gupta noticed the speed and strength she carried at a very young age.
And she purchased a first bat to the little girl and since then there wasn’t any looking back. Archana was 14 years old when she left her village to move Kanpur.
Her mentor, Poonam Gupta, enrolled her in a cricket academy and school so she could go for her higher education. In 2018, she made her debut for Uttar Pradesh Team as a young cricketer.
Her coach, Kapil Dev Pandey, guided her way into selecting for a number of tournaments like the Challengers Trophy and for India A team.
The young cricketer wore the Indian Jersey in 2022 for the first ever time when she played for India. In an earlier conversation with an independent reporter, Archana revealed about her mother’s unwavering support.
She stated that, “My mother did not back out even once, especially when the going was tough. My journey of coming from a small Indian village to now representing India is also a testament to the immense effort and sacrifice it has taken her to get me here.”
Let us remind you, ICC under-19 T20 World Cup will take place from January 14 to January 29, 2023, in South Africa.
