Aravind Sanka biography and age

Aravind Sanka is the co-founder of Rapido, who was born on January 31, 1991 in Tirur, a small village Tirur in Andhra Pradesh. He is currently about 34 years old and became one of the most successful entrepreneurs in India after completing his education at IIT Bhubaneswar. Despite never aiming to become a startup founder initially, Aravind’s journey shaped him into one.

While his parents names aren’t known, they were the ones who encouraged him to move out of his village when he was in class 9. Although his relationship status isn’t officially known, he is believed to be single and unmarried.

Education

Aravind Sanka obtained his early education from his native village before moving out of there in the 9th grade to pursue better education. He later attended IIT Bhubaneswar from 2008 to 2012, where he graduated with a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.

Career

After completing his education, Aravind interned at Tata Motors and later joined Flipkart, where he worked in supply chain finance. During his time there, Aravind Sanka helped expand the logistics wing, Ekart. While working on this role, he got real-world startup experience and developed an understanding of the ins and outs of operations, logistics, and finance.

Rapido Journey

Aravind Sanka co-founded Rapido in 2015 with Pavan Guntupalli and SR Rishikesh. Prior to that, they had their first venture called theKarrier, which was an intra-city truck aggregator. Aravind first got hit with the idea to start Rapido following a shared bike ride to work and a realization that two-wheelers could beat traffic, save time, and cost less. Aravind seemingly turned this valuable insight into a business that has now changed how millions commute every day.

When the trio started Rapido, Ola and Uber seemingly dominated the transport market. However, the group saw a gap in the need for affordable last-mile transport. Rapido mainly focused on bike taxis, which are cheaper and faster for short distances, and it quickly grew. The service offered a mobile app with real-time tracking and secure payments. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Rapido expanded into delivery and later launched auto-rickshaw services. The company became a unicorn in 2022 and at present operates in over 100 Indian cities.

Investments

Aravind Sanka has so far invested in various other startups too. Back in July 2022, he invested in Windo’s seed round, where he raised $1.5 million, and in that same month, he also contributed to Exprto Live’s $50 million seed round. Prior to that, in April 2022, Aravind also took part in iTribe’s pre-seed funding, which brought in $1 million. Interestingly, Aravind has already supported Windo once before, during their $500K seed round back in June 2021.

Controversies

Over the years, Aravind Sanka has faced legal troubles early with his company Rapido. Back in 2018, several Rapido bikes were seized in Coimbatore for operating without permits. Later in 2019, the Madras High Court banned their services across Tamil Nadu, and Apple even removed their app from the App Store. Back in 2022, Aravind and a legal advisor were both named in a case for allegedly running illegal bike taxis in Maharashtra and failing to pay taxes.
