El Ghazi began playing football in the youngest level of his hometown team, BVV Barendrecht. Afterwards, he participated in the Feyenoord training programmes for two seasons. Then he became a member of Spartaan ’20 prior to enlisting with Sparta Rotterdam.
He became a member of the Ajax Youth Academy in 2013 and represented the A1 (under-19) squad. He then joined Ajax main team in July of the same year. On January 31, 2017, El Ghazi was traded to Lille of French Ligue 1 for a transfer price of €8 million.
