Who was Antonette Mendes?
Antonette Mendes was a well-known Indian singer, actress, playwright, and theatre director. She has been in the news because she passed away at the age of 80 following a prolonged illness.
She was originally named Maria Antonia D’Souza. She was born on 10 May 1944, in Princess Street, Chira Bazaar, Bombay (presently known as Mumbai, Maharashtra). Her father, AK D’Souza, was a well-known actor, director, and writer in the theater world, in addition to being a sailor. On the other hand, her mother, Innocencia D’Souza, is a homemaker. She also has a sister named Fatima and a brother named Joaquim.
Antonette Mendes married Romeo Mendes, who is a theatre contractor and producer. The couple had three daughters named Judy, June, and Lara.
She died on 7 April 2024 in Bandra, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. At the time of her death, she was 79 years old. According to her sister Fatima, her funeral is to be held on April 10 in Mumbai.
