It’s been three weeks since Murdaugh’s trial started, and there’s still no end in sight. Alex Murdaugh is presently on trial for the double murder of his own wife Maggie and son Paul, with a backlog of other charges which have been against him including tax evasion, and money laundering too.
Previously in this trial, the judge ruled prosecution was not allowed to show evidence which is related to Murdaugh’s other criminal acts. This includes details about a big tragic boat accident that involved his now-passed son Paul.
In early 2019, Paul Murdaugh crashed his family’s boat in a horrific accident that left his friend Mallory Beach who was just 19 years old dead. Two years after, Mallory’s boyfriend Anthony Cook who was also on the boat that night filed a lawsuit against Alex Murdaugh for his son’s actions that night.

Who is Anthony Cook?
Anthony Cook who will be appearing in Netflix’s Murdaugh Murders which is a Southern Scandal, began dating Mallory in 2019 on New Year’s. While their romantic relationship was tragically cut short, the duo had been best friends since their childhood.
On the night of the 23rd of February 2019, they attended an Oyster Roast with Anthony’s cousin, Connor Cook, and his girlfriend Miley Altman. Paul Murdaugh and his girlfriend, Morgan Doughty were also with them
During the early hours of February 24, 2019, a boating accident near Parris Island, South Carolina, left one dead and five others reeling from it and Anthony Cook was one of the five, and the person that unfotunately passed away was his girlfriend, Mallory Beach. This boat actually belonged to their friend Paul Terry Murdaugh, whose family had held tremendous influence across their native of Low Country, South Carolina, for generations.
To get to this event, Paul Murdaugh took all of his friends on his family’s boat. Apart from the fact that the group was underage, a lot of drinking occurred on the night. In the early hours of the 24th of February, they gathered on the board to return home. Sadly, all of them were not able to return.
After the accident took place, Paul was charged with three felony counts of boating under influence in connection to the crash. He pleaded not guilty to all of the charges and was awaiting trial at the time of his death. But after his death, all of the charges were dropped.
Anthony was understandably devastated after losing Mallory Beach and this grief did admittedly drive Anthony to fall into a phase of partying too much in the hopes of forgetting the past for a while, but it obviously wasn’t good for him so he soon decided to clean up his act. From what we can tell, he has since preferred to maintain a low profile, but it does appear as if he currently works as an electrical lineman in Southern USA and should also mention that Anthony filed a lawsuit against Paul’s father, Richard Alex Murdaugh, the convenience store where Paul bought the liquor, and the clerk who sold the alcohol in December 2021.
