She married John in 1977, and the pair had been together for 45 years until John’s passing. During the early years of his career, her husband, Motson, worked as a reporter for the Barnet Press and Sheffield Morning Telegraph newspapers.
Before beginning his full-time employment with the BBC in 1968, he additionally performed freelance work for BBC Radio Sheffield. Four years after beginning his career as a sports reporter for Radio 2, he had his big break on Match of the Day during the infamous FA Cup rematch between Hereford and Newcastle.
