He is an officer from the 2016 batch of officers who has served in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat before. According to an official statement issued by DVAC Chennai, he is employed by the Union government as an enforcement officer at the Madurai Enforcement Department office.

According to the DVAC statement, Ankit Tiwari spoke with a government worker in Dindigul on October 29, 2023, noting a matter that had been settled and requesting that the Prime Minister’s Office issue directives for an Enforcement Department investigation. On October 30, 2023, Tiwari encouraged the worker to come into the Madurai office.

When Tiwari saw the worker in Madurai, he supposedly talked about paying ₹3 crore to avert legal action. However, after conferring with his superiors, he ultimately settled for ₹51 lakh. The employee handed over ₹20 lakh on November 1, 2023.

On November 30, 2023, the employee filed a complaint with Dindigul’s Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Unit, alleging that Ankit Tiwari had threatened to withhold the remaining ₹51 lakh from him. Upon Tiwari’s arrest on November 1, 2023, it was discovered that he had accepted a bribe of ₹20 lakh.

Investigating on behalf of the Enforcement Directorate, the DVAC collected papers that implicate him and is looking into whether he used similar tactics against others.
