The Seema Haider incident opened the floodgates of discussion around cross-border romances, bringing them into the limelight. Shortly after, the world heard about a Polish woman landing in Jharkhand, India, for her Instagram love interest. The phenomenon seems to be catching on, as demonstrated by Anju’s recent escapade.

A married Indian woman has travelled to Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province to meet her friend whom she befriended and fell in love with on Facebook, police said. Anju, 34, was born in Kailor village in Uttar Pradesh and lived in the Alwar district of Rajasthan and is now in the Upper Dir district of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to meet her 29-year-old Pakistani friend Nasrulla.

Nasrullah, who works in the medical field, and Anju became friends on the social media platform Facebook a few months ago. Anju’s full name is Anju Prasad and she is a Hindu by religion.

While Seema Haider made her journey illegally, Anju had a contrasting approach. As reported by Aaj News, a Pakistani news outlet, Anju held a valid visa, making her entry into Pakistan via the Wagah Border. She then made her way to Islamabad.

The unexpected detour raises eyebrows in both nations

The sudden decision to visit Pakistan was not something Anju discussed with her husband, Arvind. Claiming she’d be in Jaipur for a few days, he was left stunned when media outlets informed him of her actual whereabouts. Despite the unexpectedness, Arvind maintains contact with Anju. She assures him of her return to India within a few days, as noted by India Today.

However, Anju’s entry caused quite a stir in Pakistan. Even though she had valid documents, government authorities have launched an investigation into her visit.

According to news agency ANI, quoting Aaj News, the couple’s relationship began on Facebook about four years ago. Their digital camaraderie eventually evolved into love, leading Anju to take the bold step. Journeying to the rugged terrains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, she followed her heart in search of love.

Aaj News also highlighted Anju’s profound love for Nasrullah, stating she “could not live without” him. However, Nasrullah’s family offers a different perspective, suggesting Anju visited Pakistan primarily for sightseeing, not marriage. Currently, Anju has a permitted 30-day stay in the country.

Previous cases under investigation

Meanwhile, authorities are still probing the Seema Haider case, where she entered India without proper documentation. Responding to her illegal move, the Ministry of External Affairs commented that the matter remains “under investigation.” Haider was presented before court and has since been released on bail.

As digital platforms continue to bridge gaps between nations, these cross-border tales showcase the challenges, risks, and lengths people go to for love.
