Age 51 Anil Bishnoi has not only been fighting the hunters of blackbucks and chinkaras, but he has also dug more than 60 ponds from his personal funds to quench the thirst of these animals with him raising Rs.2 lakhs from villagers back in 2017 to fund this effort.
Anil believes that every living creature on Earth has the right to live its life peacefully and his team includes more than 3 thousand people from 12 districts.
He has lodged more than 200 cases of poaching and nearly 24 cases reached the final stage where the poachers were sentenced to penalties with him saving 10,000 black bucks till date.
The Government of Rajasthan accorded a unique status by nominating him as the state’s Honorary Wildlife Warden and he was also awarded the Dalmia Water Environment Protection Award and State level Amrita Devi Environmental Protection Award for his work on conservation of the environment and water conservation. He was also awarded the Earth Hero Award by NatWest Group India.
Anil belongs to the Bishnoi community, which believes in the reincarnation of their Guru Bhagwan Jambeshwar, who has preached to take care of wildlife.
A resident of the Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan, cotton and mustard farmer Anil has dedicated his life to the conservation of the blackbucks. He has even started an active campaign against poachers across 50 panchayats and his children, son Arpit, wife, brother and sister-in-law are at the forefront in treating injured blackbucks and chinkaras. Anil is not related to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
To prevent the slaughter of wild animals and deforestation in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan, a convention was convened in 1990. There was also a young man here who was only 17 or 18 years old and a college student.
The gathering recognized individuals who sacrificed their lives to defend blackbucks and voiced worry about animal poaching. The young man decided to start a campaign against black deer poachers after being profoundly impacted by the conference’s remarks. This young man’s name was Anil Bishnoi, and he is now regarded as Rajasthan’s black deer defender.
In addition to combating blackbuck and chinkara poachers for the past 32–33 years, Anil has used his own money to dig over 60 ponds to let these animal’s drink. Black bucks are highly revered by the Bishnoi population in Rajasthan, and Anil has demonstrated this.
After the conference, Anil Bishnoi made a commitment to rescue black deer, but it was not an easy battle. In order to carry out his mission, he met with the villagers, according to the Better India article. Anil advised the villagers to notify them right away if they learn that black bucks are being hunted anywhere in the forest.
The fight to conserve black deer began in this manner. He learned one day that some hunters had been caught in the middle of a forest ambush. Anil grabbed his motorbike and headed straight toward the forests. But by the time Anil got there, five black deer had been killed by a hunter. The hunter pointed a rifle at Anil’s head as he attempted to stop him as soon as he arrived.
Anil, however, held the hunter in check until the cops arrived since he was unfazed by the sight of the gun. The hunter was taken into custody. By putting his life on the line, Anil Bishnoi has so far apprehended over 300 poachers, many of them have even been imprisoned.
As witnesses, they testify in court against poachers and hold them accountable for their crimes. Black deer are a wonderful animal of the planet, and Anil is fighting to protect them in other ways besides against poachers. These include shielding them from traffic accidents and dog attacks. He has so far made sure that over 10,000 chinkaras and blackbucks in 60 panchayats are protected.
