Who is Pedro Goncalves?
Pedro Valdemar Soares Goncalves is a Portuguese football manager who was born on February 7, 1976, in Lisbon, Portugal. He is the national team coach for Angola at the moment.
A look at Pedro Goncalves’ career
In 1997, while still an assistant, Goncalves started his coaching career at Amora Futebol Clube. He subsequently relocated to CD Cova da Piedade before joining Sporting Clube de Portugal in 2000. In 2001, he was appointed youth coach after serving as a scout in the club’s first year. Up to 2015, he served as a coach at Sporting’s academy.
He also moved to Angola in 2015, where he managed Primeiro de Agosto’s under-15 and under-17 teams before leading them to the Angolan league title. He was named Angola’s national under-17 coach in 2018.
That year, he finished third in the African Cup of Nations and went on to win the COSOFA Cup, leading Angola to its maiden qualifying for the under-17 World Cup. Goncalves was appointed the senior national team coach of Angola in 2019, following his tenure as coach of the Palancas Negras’ U-20 and U-23 squads.
