Angkita Dutta made headlines for accusing the National President of the Indian Youth Congress, Srinivas B V, of harassment. She took to social media to express her grievances, referring to Srinivas as “sexist” and “chauvinistic”. She further alleged that despite bringing the matter to the attention of Rahul Gandhi, no action was taken against Srinivas, and she faced discrimination based on gender for months.

However, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) responded by expelling Angkita Dutta from the party for a period of six years, citing “anti-party activities”. This decision drew mixed reactions, with some expressing disappointment and criticizing Congress for not providing a platform for Angkita to address her grievances.

The BJP’s IT cell head, Amit Malaviya, also criticized Congress, calling it their “model of women empowerment” to remove a woman who alleged harassment.

Angkita Dutta’s political journey has been closely linked to her family’s political legacy. Being the daughter of the late Anjan Dutta, who held prominent positions in the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Angkita has been carrying forward her family’s political aspirations.
