She had been a primary school teacher before breaking into the fashion world in the 1970s. Her controversial and often polarizing designs began to be associated with the punk movement. However, few people know that she could do all of this thanks to her husband Andreas Kronthaler’s love and support.
Since her death, many people are also trying to find out more about her husband. So, let’s find out everything about him:
Who Is Andreas Kronthaler?
Andreas Kronthaler is a well-known Austrian creative director and design partner. He has been in the news because her wife Vivienne Westwood passed away at the age of 81.
His birthplace was Tyrol, Austria.
He enrolled at the Ortwein Art School in Graz, Austria, in 1980 and studied there for five years to become a jeweler. He started experimenting with fashion at this time and started producing garments at home to sell to friends and in nearby shops.
At the University of Applied Arts Vienna, he majored in Industrial Design before switching to fashion design.
He was married to fashionista Vivienne Westwood until her death. While his DOB isn’t known, he was aged between 80-85 years.
His Career
After completing his studies, he relocated to London in 1989 to work for Vivienne Westwood’s company as he was also his former student. Cut and Slash, which debuted in the spring/summer of 1991, was their first collaborative collection. The dresses in this collection by Kronthaler, subsequently known as the Sun Wheel dress, were designed in the Renaissance style.
In 1992, Westwood and Kronthaler got hitched. They kept creating collections together. They remained together until Westwood’s passing on December 29, 2022.
Despite being a quiet design partner and creative director at first, Westwood renamed the Gold Label collection Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood in 2016 to recognize his dedication and impact over the brand’s 25-year history.
