As per the claims made by Chhaochharia, the incident took place when she was flying with Etihad from Kolkata to Abu Dhabi en route to the US.

Growing up in Kolkata, India, Ananya was encouraged to pursue undergraduate studies, but undertaking post-graduate studies was not something the women in her family did.

“I happen to be one of the only ones who is unmarried, career oriented, and does not have a family at the age of 28, which itself is astounding,” she had said.

Chhaochharia attended the University of Calcutta in 2017 and studied political science and enrolled at the Harvard Kennedy School aka HKS in 2022 to continue to work on her foundation. Her time in the Master in the Public Policy Program and at HKS have been full of opportunities and she sees herself in politics in India in 10 years time.

What Did Ananya Chhaochharia Reveal?

Taking to X, Ananya Chhaochharia, penned that she is grateful to the “Staff of Etihad and the Abu Dhabi police” for their support.

She furthermore reveals that during the flight she was seated next to an “industrialist” reportedly “Dinesh Kumar Saraogi, CEO of Jindal Steel.”

However, Jindal Steel has denied him being involved directly with the company currently.

“Dinesh Kumar Saraogi who is alleged of harassing a woman on the Etihad flight is not a Jindal Steel Executive since last year. He is the CEO of Vulcan Green Steel, Oman and does not have any direct relation with the Listed company Jindal Steel and Power,” the com[any’s statement said.

Dinesh is from Churu in Rajasthan with his two sons settled in the US.

As per the viral post, Dinesh, who she describes is “roughly 65” told her that he lives in Oman but frequently travels. She alleged that the two had a normal conversation about their roots and family before their chat move on to Ananya’s hobbies.

In her post, she wrote, “He asked if I enjoy watching movies and I was like, of course. He then proceeds to tell me he has some movie clips on his phone. He whips out his phone and earphones to show me P*RN! He started gr*ping me. I was frozen in shock and scared.”

In her viral video which she wrote on X from her handle which goes by the name @ananyac05, she recounted that she ran off to the washroom and complained about the matter to the airline staff.

According to her, the Etihad team was active in the matter and took immediate action.

Additionally, She reached out to Naveen Jindal on the platform while remarking that he should be “aware of the kind of people who are in leadership. I am also afraid of how this molester must be treating his female employees from a place of power.”

What Did Naveen Jindal Say?

Responding to her, Naveen Jindal said on X, “Dear Ananya, thank you for reaching out and speaking up! It takes a lot of courage to do what you did, and I want you to know that we have a zero-tolerance policy for such matters.

“I have asked the team to immediately investigate the matter and thereafter take the strictest necessary action.”

As per the media reports, a long-time employee of Naveen Jindal’s Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL), named Dinesh Kumar Saraogi who is currently involved in establishing a green steel plant in Oman for the group, was reportedly detained upon arrival in Abu Dhabi for the alleged assault.

As per sources, he was released after a brief detention. Naveen Jindal has assured the complainant that the company will “immediately investigate the matter and take the strictest necessary action.”

Reports suggests that the person in-question is in his 60s and has been working for the Jindal Steel for over 3 decades. He was an executive director at the company’s Angul plant until about a year ago.

Later, he was transferred to another firm of Naveen Jindal’s, which is setting up a green steel plant in Oman. Saraogi is currently the CEO of Vulcan Green Steel in Oman. He was the ex-CEO of Jindal Steel and Power Ltd.
