A search and rescue effort in the Potomac River, which borders Ronald Reagan National Airport, comprised several agencies, according to police. Numerous law enforcement, medical, and rescue units some of which had boats were stationed alongside the river and hurried to different locations on the airport runway. Several boats with flashing red and blue lights were visible in the water in live television footage.
As emergency workers responded to the aircraft mishap, the airport declared late Wednesday that all take-offs and landings had been suspended.

Robert Isom career
Robert Isom started his airline career at Northwest Airlines after receiving his MBA. After that, he worked for America West Airlines before joining GMAC, LLC as its chief restructuring officer.
Isom kept his prior role with the newly merged airline after US Airways and American Airlines merged in 2013.
Alejandro Mayorkas, the US Secretary of Homeland Security, announced Isom’s appointment to the Homeland Security Advisory Council on March 17, 2022, before he formally became CEO.
Isom issued a video statement on January 29, 2025, in response to American Eagle Flight 5342’s mid-air accident in the Potomac River. Additionally, he revealed that he would be joining a team from American Airlines to fly to Washington, D.C.
