Ms. Kaur had been serving with the Mansa police and remained attached to the Bathinda Police Lines when authorities arrested her. Officials have charged the constable under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Why the authorities suspended Amandeep Kaur?

Acting on a tip-off, the Punjab Police and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force intercepted Kaur’s Mahindra Thar SUV near the Badal flyover. Deputy Superintendent of Police Harbans Singh informed the media that authorities recovered the heroin from her possession and impounded the vehicle. Police booked her under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and began an investigation into her assets.

Age 27 Amandeep Kaur belongs to a poor Dalit family of Chak Fate Singh Wala village in Bathinda. Kaur’s father is a mason and her brother works in a private firm and has a sister who is married. When Kaur got a government job in 2011, her family hoped that this would help them get out of poverty but she is said to have broken off ties with her family.

Known for showing off Rado and Rolex watches and Gucci glasses, Amandeep lived a luxurious life in a posh colony in Bathinda and is said to own a Thar, a Royal Enfield bike and a scooter.

Amandeep is married and got into a dispute with her husband soon after their marriage and in 2015, an IPS officer posted in Bathinda once threatened her husband. This is the same IPS officer whom Amandeep tried to contact at the time of her arrest on Wednesday and when she was detained for interrogation on Wednesday, Kaur showed WhatsApp messages, chats and photos to show her close relationship with the senior officer.

She seperated from her husband with whom she had a love marriage. During the Corona period, Amandeep Kaur met ambulance driver Balwinder Singh alias Sonu and both of them started doing illegal drug business under the guise of police uniform and ambulance.

The wife of accused Balwinder Singh has also alleged that Amandeep Kaur and Balwinder Singh both do drugs business together. In 14 years, Amandeep was transferred 31 times and suspended twice.

Amandeep Kaur, aged 27, had earlier served in Mansa and was later posted to Bathinda Police Lines. Her professional career received considerable public attention, partly due to her social media activity. Using the handle “police_kaurdeep,” she regularly posted reels and photos on Instagram, where she gained over 30,000 followers. Her content showcased a lavish lifestyle and frequently featured her SUV, which reportedly bore a Punjab Police sticker—possibly used to bypass security checks.

Observers noted that several of her posts included songs by the late singer Sidhu Moosewala, and she openly supported calls for justice following his 2022 assassination. Her presence on social media eventually drew scrutiny from department officials, as regulations bar personnel from sharing content in uniform.

Meanwhile, a woman named Gurmeet Kaur questioned the source of Kaur’s wealth and claiming that Kaur lived in a live-in relationship with Balwinder Singh, who works as an ambulance driver. Also, Gurmeet alleged that Ms. Kaur and Mr. Singh used the ambulance to distribute heroin, claiming she had informed the police about their activities, though no action followed.
