The official mascot, “Alma,” who is described as a “brave dog” and “sister of the “Pibe” Valderrama,” was introduced at the draw for the group stage of the 2022 Copa América Femenina, which will be held in Colombia. Evidently, the fact that a dog was chosen has sparked outrage on social media.
He can be seen in the pictures playing with a ball and scratching his eye while wearing a red shirt and yellow shorts.
In the draw’s presentation, “Alma” describes herself as a very competitive football enthusiast who enjoys the game both on and off the field. “She makes friends easily and everyone wants to play with her because to her outgoing nature. The CONMEBOL Copa América Femenina is gaining more and more admirers as a result of her enthusiasm for the game, according to the tournament’s official organiser.
Because the word “dog” is often connected with an insult to women or something humiliating, the choice of mascot caused a lot of controversy. However, other, less conservative viewpoints regarded it as a female revolt since the election of this character.
Gavy Santos, a player who has played for River Plate as well as Santa Fe, Huila, and women’s Fortress, expressed her view through emoticons that she did not like the new mascot.
More online users then shared their opinions on the new Copa América Femenina mascot.
