Reports have indicated that a deeply unsettling event unfolded in Antharam village, Zaheerabad, in the Sangareddy district where 15-year-old Aliya Begum tragically lost her life while attempting to shield her father, Mohammed Ismail, from an alleged mob attack. It was noted that the incident began on February 11 when Mohammed Ismail was confronted by Veera Reddy and Vijay Reddy, along with a group of around 40 individuals, reportedly after he was seen urinating in open fields near their residence.

15-year old Muslim girl named Aliya Begum succumbed to her injuries after she bravely tried to protect her father from a mob attack on February 11 in Telangana‘s Antharam village of Zaheerabad. Aliya who was in the 10th standard was preparing for her board exams.

Mohammad Ismail, the father of the girl was attacked by a group of at least 40 men when he was caught urinating near homes belonging to individuals, Veera Reddy and Vijay Reddy. Upon seeing her father being attacked, Aliya quickly ran to rescue him but was attacked by stones and she fought against her injuries for three days but couldn’t make it as she passed away on February 15.
The incident has left the entire village deeply appalled with many demanding stricter and immediate action against the accused.

As tensions escalated, Aliya intervened to protect her father but was grievously injured by heavy stones and later, she succumbed to her injuries on February 15. AIMIM MLA Kausar Mohiuddin, who visited the grieving family, recounted that Aliya had bravely rushed to her father’s aid but fell victim to the attack herself. Expressing his condolences, he urged the authorities to act decisively, highlighting the gravity of the incident.
How the community reacted to Aliya Begum’s death?
Amjadullah Khan Khalid, spokesperson for the Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), was reportedly prevented by the police from meeting the victim’s family. He later condemned the authorities’ approach and called for a judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court judge. Additionally, he demanded compensation of Rs. 25 lakh, a government job, and housing under the Indiramma Housing Scheme for the bereaved family.
The All India Milli Council of Telangana has extended legal support to the family, with their legal representatives filing a formal complaint with the Superintendent of Police in Sangareddy. Advocates such as Afsar Jahan and Sujaath have underscored their commitment to ensuring the perpetrators are held accountable, advising the family not to accept any settlements that could undermine their pursuit of justice.
Public Prosecutor Lateef Rahman has been approached to ensure that bail is not granted to the accused. Meanwhile, MLA Kausar Mohiuddin has criticized the authorities for the delayed response, asserting that the attack is not merely on a family but on the entire community, and justice must prevail. Social media activist Saba Khan voiced her sorrow and indignation, recalling the incident and praying for strength for Aliya’s parents.
Muslim leaders have warned that failing to deliver justice could further exacerbate communal tensions. Amjadullah Khan Khalid has reiterated his demand for the arrest of all individuals involved and assured continued support for the family. While the police have registered a case against Veera Reddy, Vijay Reddy, and other unnamed individuals, the community remains skeptical about the pace of the investigation.
