We examine the biography, height, career journey, and controversies sorrounding the 25-year-old Algerian boxer Imane Khelif
The International Olympic Committee has announced that two boxers, previously disqualified from last year’s world championships due to gender eligibility issues, will be permitted to compete in Paris. Imane Khelif from Algeria and Lin Yu-ting from Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) are beginning their Olympic campaigns this week. Khelif will face Italy’s Angela Carini in the 66kg category.
Last year, the IBA was expelled from the Olympic movement after a contentious conflict between the CIO and Kremlev. As a result, the IOC has assumed responsibility for organizing boxing at the Paris Games. In the social media, fans slammed the decision of IOC and urged the organizers to ban Khelif from the competition.

In the 2022 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships, Khelif became the first Algerian female boxer to reach the final by defeating the Netherlands’ Chelsey Heijnen. However, she lost to Ireland’s Amy Broadhurst in the final. In March 2023, Khelif was disqualified just before her gold medal bout at the 2023 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships due to failing eligibility criteria, which was later revealed to be due to high testosterone levels.
As per schedule, Imane Khelif will face Italy’s Angela Carini in the round of 16 in the 66 kg category on August 1 at 6:20 AM ET. Meanwhile, Yu-ting will compete in the women’s 57 kg event, taking on Sitora Turdibekova on August 2 at 9:30 AM ET.
