Akbar Al Baker was born in Doha, Qatar in 1962. His early education took him to St. Peter’s School in Panchgani. Al Baker holds a private pilot license. He is married to Samira and the couple has two sons namely Hussain and Mohammed.

In 1997, Akbar Al Baker assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways and under his leadership, the airline took off to new heights. Prior to this role, he had worked at the Civil Aviation Directorate of Qatar and also served as Chairman of the Qatar Tourism Authority. However, his influence extended beyond just the airline; he was CEO of several divisions within the Qatar Airways Group.
