Yutaka Yoshie, a 50-year-old experienced wrestler, passed away on Sunday after a match, according to an announcement from All Japan Pro Wrestling.

On March 10, during an All-Japan Pro Wrestling event, Yoshie and Ryo Inoue were defeated by Hokuto Omori and Ryouji Sai. Yoshie became quite sick as soon as he went backstage and was taken to a nearby hospital. Sadly, he passed away without being able to recuperate.

Who was Yutaka Yoshie?

Yoshie Yutaka was a professional wrestler who mostly wrestled as a freelancer for All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW), where he held the title of World Tag Team Champion. The 50-year-old was born on January 5, 1974, in Maebashi, Gunma, Japan. He stood 180 cm tall and weighed 160kg (5-foot-11, 350 pounds).

A look at Yutaka Yoshie’s career

Pro Wrestling Noah, Pro Wrestling Zero1, and New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), where he was a former IWGP Tag Team Champion, were among the promotions he had previously wrestled for.

Yoshie, a former judo practitioner, enrolled in the NJPW dojo in February 1994 and made his professional wrestling debut against Satoshi Kojima on December 9, 1994. On January 4, 1998, at Final Power Hall in Tokyo Dome, Yoshie competed for the first time in a major match after spending years on the undercards of NJPW events. He was one of the five men chosen to fight Riki Choshu in his Riki Road Final Message 5 series, which was supposed to be the last one of his retirement tour.

Yoshie achieved notable wins the next year over wrestlers like Tatsuhito Takaiwa and El Samurai before departing in August on an educational trip to Germany to participate in Catch Wrestling Association (CWA) matches.

In January 2006, Yoshie chose to become a freelancer rather than resign with the promotion after years of failing to make it into NJPW’s main fold.

Yutaka Yoshie’s cause of death

Yoshie participated in an All Japan Pro Wrestling performance at the Gunma Convention Centre in Takasaki on March 10, 2024. He walked backstage to speak with the media after the game. He returned to the locker room after the interview and collapsed unexpectedly.

Yutaka was rushed to hospital but couldn’t make it, at 50. Suwama verified Yoshie’s cause of death; arteriosclerosis; the next day.
