His full name is Ajaypal Singh Banga. He was born on November 10, 1959, in Pune, India. His family originally belongs to Jalandhar. His father’s name is Harbhajan Singh Banga who is a retired lieutenant-general of the Indian Army, however, nothing much is known about her mother. He also has a younger brother named businessman M. S. Banga.
Ajay Banga did his schooling at St. Edward’s School in Shimla and Hyderabad Public School in Hyderabad. Later, he graduated from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Economics. Later, he did PGP in Management (equivalent to MBA) from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
