Ke Huy Quan became a child actor at the early age of 12 years, starring as Harrison Ford’s sidekick Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The casting director auditioned children at the Castelar Elementary School, which also included his younger brother.
In 1985, he further co-starred in The Goonies being a member of the eponymous group of children, inventor Richard “Data” Wang. Quan played a pickpocket orphan in the 1986 Taiwanese movie It Takes a Thief.
Quan studied Taekwondo under Philip Tan on the sets of the Indiana Jones and Temple of Doom. Quan later trained under Tao-Liang Tan. Being an adult, he found it difficult to find acting work in the United States and eventually he quit acting and later on enrolled in a movie program at the University of Southern California.
He worked as assistant director on Wong Kar-wai’s 2046 in 2004. In early 2018, he got inspired by the success of Crazy Rich Asians in 2018 to return to acting. In the same year, Daniels started casting for their movie Everything Everywhere All At Once in 2022.
In 2022, it was declared that Quan has joined the cast of the second season of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series of Loki for Disney+.
