Beena, who balances her life as a dedicated teacher and a passionate artist, won the accolade for her portrayal of Geetha, an anganwadi teacher, in Fazil Razaq’s film “Thadavu,” aka “The Sentence.”

Meanwhile, Urvashi, who shared the award with Beena, and secured her sixth acting honor, grabbed this feat for her performance in “Ullozhukku.”

About Beena R Chandran

For the unfamiliar, although, as of now, there isn’t much information about Beena’s personal life, including her date of birth and family information. However, earlier this year, the teacher cum actress received a special jury mention at the Kerala Film Critics Awards for her role of Geetha.

Despite previously, appearing in director Sudevan’s critically acclaimed “Crime No 89,” and a few short films, this was Beena’s first time playing a full-length lead character in a feature film.

Beena, who works at CEUP School in Parudur, Palakkad district, she has long been active in theatre. She is a regular performer with Kalapadhasala, Arangottukara, a renowned theatre group, and also collaborates with Nadakasangham in Thrissur.

In addition to acting, she is a gifted mimicry artist known for her flawless imitations of bird sounds.

A postgraduate in Botany, Beena teaches science and languages, with a particular love for English and Malayalam, as they allow her to bring creativity into her classroom.

She incorporates her theatre experience into teaching, transforming lessons into skits, dances, and dramas. She also runs a children’s theatre group at her school.

A few hours after winning the award on Friday evening, Beena took to the stage again, performing a 40-minute solo play titled “Otta Njaval Maram” for Kalapadhasala, the theatre group she has been part of for years.

Previous Work

Previously, she had played smaller roles in films by P.P. Sudevan and M.G. Sasi, and director Fazil Razak, who won the Best Debutant Director award for “Thadavu.”
