The viral video depicts Abu Shehma Shaikh provoking people with a statement that resounds with regional identity, proclaiming, “This is not UP, this is Mumbai.” His subsequent communal remarks further exacerbated the situation, prompting authorities to intervene swiftly.
The Mira Bhayander police, along with the collaboration of multiple law enforcement agencies, responded with the deployment of local police, Mumbai Police, Palghar Police, Thane Rural Police, Rapid Action Force (RAF), Maharashtra Security Force (MSF), and State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) to restore order in the area.
DCP Jayant Bajbale shed light on the incident by acknowledging the several videos circulating on social media that documented the clash. He emphasized the role of the viral video featuring Abu Shaikh, stating that the individual responsible for its posting has been arrested. The police have sought a two-day custody for further investigation.
Shrikant Pathak, Additional Commissioner of Police at Mira Bhayandar, appealed for calm, urging residents to maintain peace amidst the ongoing investigation. Pathak assured the public that the police are diligently examining the incident and will take action against the accused while emphasizing the importance of maintaining tranquility.
In response to the escalating situation, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took to social media by providing updates on the government’s actions. Fadnavis affirmed that the complete details of the incident were obtained promptly and he was in constant communication with the Mira-Bhyander Police Commissioner until the early hours of the morning.
He conveyed a stern message, asserting, “Anyone trying to disrupt law and order in Maharashtra will not be tolerated.”
A notable development emerged with the arrest of thirteen individuals in connection with the violence in Nayanagar. Deputy Commissioner of Police Jayant Bajbale shared insights into the origin of the conflict by indicating that it began around 11 pm on Sunday when members of the Hindu community raised slogans in vehicles in the Naya Nagar area.
The Deputy Chief Minister directed the police to take strict action against the accused and the ongoing process of identifying additional suspects is underway through the scrutiny of CCTV footage. Fadnavis’s commitment to maintaining law and order underscores the government’s proactive stance in handling such incidents.
