Federico Araújo joined Rentistas from his local club Huracán de Rivera. He was born in Rivera which is a city close to the Brazilian border to a Brazilian mother and a Uruguayan father. On September 24, 2016, he made his senior debut with the previous team after substituting late in a 1-0 Segunda División away victory over Tacuarembó.
On December 9, 2016, Araújo equalised a 2–2 home draw against Central Español with his first goal as a senior. In June 2017, he scored a hat-trick in a 3-2 victory over Villa Española on the road after establishing himself as a regular starter. Araújo made the major positional change from striker to defender at Rentistas.
