About Abdallah Aljamal
According to the author’s page of the official website of Al Jazeera, Abdallah Aljamal is a “Gaza-based reporter and photojournalist. He often reports from the ongoing ‘March of Return’ protests at the fence separating besieged Gaza from Israel.”
Though reports suggest that the 36-year-old journalist had been working with the outlet since 2019, the Qatar-based outlet denies his employment status.
However, his author profile is still displayed on the news outlet’s website. Before his death, the photojournalist had been exclusively working on the reporting of Palestinian casualties in Gaza during the air strike.
Many of his recent articles focused on the ongoing operations of the Israel Defense Forces in Nuseirat, where the intelligence found him holding three of four hostages and rescued them near a refugee camp.
Al-Jazeera’s Jerusalem bureau chief Omar al-Walid has denied claims made by Israel’s military that journalist Abdullah Al-Jamal worked for them.
Abdallah Aljamal’s Instagram goes by the name @aljamalay, wherein he has over 200 followers. He last updated his social media account in October 2019.
As per media reports, in addition to rescuing the three hostages, the IDF also freed Noa Agramani, a 26-year-old Israeli woman who is also said to have been held captive by Abdallah.
