This is the third high-profile arrest in the case, following the February arrest of Manish Sisodia and the September arrest of Vijay Nair. Both continue to remain behind bars.
Who is Sanjay Singh?
Sanjay Singh was born on March 22, 1972, in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India and was born to parents who were teachers with his father named Dinesh Singh. He is married to wife Anita Singh.
He earned a diploma in mining engineering from the Orissa School of Mining Engineering in 1993.

Sanjay Singh’s Career
Prior to joining the Aam Aadmi Party, Singh, a social activist, spent 16 years fighting for the rights of hawkers. In Keonjhar, Odisha, India, he conducted his first “Andolan,” campaigning for the rights of the populace and against corruption.
He founded the Sultanpur Samaj Sewa Sangathan group in 1994. He began social services. Additionally, he was a member of the Azad Sewa Samiti, which ultimately merged with the National Hawkers’ Association.
He started working with Sandeep Pandey in 2002, and through their anti-Coca-Cola movement in 2007, they connected with Medha Patkar, Ashgar Ali Engineer (a social activist), and Ram Punyani, a former professor at IIT Bombay.
He collaborated with Arvind Kejriwal in 2011 after becoming involved with Anna Hazare’s India Against Corruption (IAC) campaign.
He was tasked with organising a five-day demonstration in Sultanpur, Rae Bareli, and Amethi.
He had never run for office before 2017, but he actively supported the AAP candidate in several state assembly elections.
He received the Upper House of Indian Democracy’s nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections in 2018.
Sanjay Singh’s Controversies
On July 24, 2023, he was suspended for the duration of the monsoon session from the Rajya Sabha for unruly behaviour. Piyush Goyal, the House leader, made the motion to suspend him.
