In what comes as tragic news, a 15-year-old JFC Berlin youth footballer died, following a fight with a rival player after an international tournament match but the name of the player isn’t known

With the victim now dead, the other boy involved in the fight, a 16-year-old Metz player is now in pre-trial detention with police currently continuing investigations.

The tragic incident has left everyone in shock especially the parents of the victims, his teammates and the club.

How it happened

The shocking incident occurred after an international youth football tournament, which took place in Frankfurt on Sunday. While speaking about the incident, the German police confirmed that the 15-year-old victim passed away after right after the fight. The victim reportedly played for JFC Berlin.

A statement about the incident read:

After a fight on Sunday… a 15-year-old boy died in hospital of serious brain injuries. In order to clarify the circumstances of (the death of the young German), an autopsy will be performed in the coming days.”

Reports indicate that the fight between the two broke out at the end of a match between Metz and JFC Berlin’s youth sides. During the fight, the Metz player allegedly struck the Berlin opponent “on the head and neck”. After getting hit, the German player reportedly collapsed with a brain injury. Following the fight, the tragic teen had to be kept alive on machines so that his organs can be donated.

FC Metz releases official club statement

Following the incident, FC Metz released a statement stating their support towards the investigations saying:

FC Metz learned with amazement of the drama that took place in Frankfurt during a friendly private U17-U19 football tournament in which two FC Metz Performance Program teams participated.”

“At the end of a match which had taken place in good spirits, an incomprehensible scuffle took place and a young German player was hospitalised in serious condition, without the causes of this state being able to be determined today, now established.

“At present, the German justice in charge of the case is investigating to shed light on these tragic facts. A young player from FC Metz Performance Program is currently heard by the German authorities and denies having deliberately damaged the physical integrity of the injured young player.

The club also stated that the program and the players are at the disposal of the German authorities to assist in the investigation. The club have also stated the shock behind the tragedy and assured its most sincere support to the young player, his family, and his loved ones.

The fact a young man was taken from his life after a football game stunned me, left me speechless. I wish his relatives, friends and the team infinite strength in this darkest hour.”

Berlin FA president Bernd Schultz also gave tribute saying:

Our thoughts and sympathies go out to all the relatives and team members of the player concerned in these difficult hours.”
