The leaked Telegram messages showed William Hendrix, vice chair of the Kansas Young Republicans, repeatedly using racist slurs, including variations of the N-word. Meanwhile, Peter Giunta, who is chief of staff to New York Assemblymember Mike Reilly and former chair of the New York State Young Republicans, allegedly joked about gas chambers. The leaks have since sparked massive backlash online, prompting netizens to post all kinds of reactions.
Following the heavy backlash, Giunta issued a statement calling the situation a:
