It’s unclear if this Ajay Gupta is the same one who left South Africa with his brothers Rajesh and Atul—the third sibling is on the country’s wanted list.
Ajay, Atul, and Rajesh are the three people that left South Africa with their families; Anil is thought to be their brother-in-law because he is married to their sister Achala, according to officials.
Ahead of next week’s general elections in South Africa, Justice Minister Ronald Lamola stated at an African National Congress rally on Saturday that the government was aware of Gupta family members being detained in India.
Who are Gupta Brothers?
The Gupta brothers, Ajay(58), Atul(55), and Rajesh(53), are originally from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. In 1993, they relocated to South Africa in order to launch their own company.
Shiv Kumar Gupta predicted to his sons in the 1980s that Africa would replace America as the “America of the World.” So Atul Gupta, who had taken courses in the assembly, maintenance, and repair of Apple hardware, came to South Africa in order to look for business chances.
The oldest brother, Atul Gupta, arrived in South Africa during the period when the nation was becoming more open to the outside world following the end of apartheid. Rajesh and Ajay quickly followed in the footsteps of their older sibling.
In 1994, Atul Gupta founded Correct Marketing, a firm that would later become Sahara Computers and Sahara Systems (Pvt) Ltd. The company’s primary focus was the sale of computers and related peripherals.

Charges against Gupta brothers
In response to rumours of the arrest of two Gupta brothers, one of whom is wanted in this country for allegedly stealing billions from state-owned businesses, South Africa announced on Saturday that it will cooperate with the Indian government.
Ajay, Rajesh, and Atul Gupta are charged with embezzling billions of rands from South Africa due to their close relationship with former President Jacob Zuma. After Zuma was overthrown as president in 2018, the three of them, along with their families, escaped to Dubai.
When the UAE rejected Rajesh and Atul’s request to be extradited in 2023, South Africa declared them to be fugitives. The brothers had established a huge empire in the media, mining, and IT industries.
The South African government last year submitted a formal extradition application to the United Arab Emirates for Rajesh Gupta and Atul Gupta and family fled to Dubai six years ago as the net closed in on them following Zuma’s ousting.
