The family consisted of four people, all of whom died on the spot. The family consisted of a father, a mother, a son, and a daughter. All were residents of Manekpura in Vijapur taluka in Gujarat, India.

The superintendent of police in Mehsana, Achal Tyagi, stated, “Four members of a family from the Mehsana district are among the deceased.” “We are speaking with their relatives and attempting to acquire additional information.”

The Family Was Identified By The Authorities

On Thursday, their bodies were discovered in a marshy area in the Akwesasne region of the Canadian province of Quebec. According to the authorities, they have been identified as farmer Praveenbhai Chaudhary (50), his wife Dakshaben Chaudhary (45), and their children Meet (20) and Vidhi Chaudhary (24). 

Despite having tourist visas for Canada, the family tried to enter the US illegally with the help of a human trafficking agent.

Jashu Chaudhary, Pravin Chaudhary’s cousin, informed the reporters that he spoke with them a few weeks ago and that they had taken a trip to Canada in February.

According to Chaudhary, the family’s suspicions were verified when they discovered that his brother, wife, and two children were among the victims whose names were being circulated on WhatsApp groups of his relatives who were living in Canada.

The Similar Event That Claimed Life Of Multiple People In The Past

The situation is reminiscent of a string of tragedies that have befallen families seeking to enter the US illegally for more than a year. Following the Dingucha tragedy, in which four members of a family froze to death in Canada while reportedly trying to enter the US illegally, the illegal immigration scam came to light in January 2022.

After Canadian police discovered Jagdish Patel, 35, his wife Vaishali, 33, and their children Vihanga, 12, and Dharmik, 3, frozen to death in an empty field on January 19, last year, Gujarat police and state authorities started looking for human traffickers.

On October 16, Brijkumar Yadav, 36, died after falling off a metal fence along the US-Mexico border while holding his three-year-old son, who survived. 

The guy and his son tumbled to the ground on the Mexican side of the border in Tijuana as they attempted to climb over a 30-foot border barrier. His wife sustained an arm injury as well as a hip fracture.

The Mastermind Behind Human Trafficking

On December 14, Gujarat police detained Bobby, aka Bharat Patel, the scheme’s mastermind, in Ahmedabad. Patel is thought to have planned the Dingucha family’s infiltration. His arrest by the state monitoring cell of the Gujarat police was related to a gambling operation that was being run in Ahmedabad in July of last year under the guise of a charitable foundation.

Police detained two more people in connection with the Dingucha incident in January of this year. Dingucha and Chhatral are both in the Gandhinagar district.

The Illegal Immigration Scheme That Smuggles Tons Of People

45 people were detained on September 5, 2022, by Mehsana police for their alleged involvement in an illegal immigration scheme wherein ineligible students obtained high IELTS scores to get admission to Canadian colleges to be smuggled into the US. Three further people were detained by the police, one of whom was a student from Surat.

A coaching class owner, the CEO of a private examination management and educational services organisation, staff members of a testing agency, and 21 students had all been detained by police.

After news broke that six Gujarati nationals who had entered Canada on student visas had been apprehended by US authorities on April 28, 2022. The Gujarat police took action against it. After their boat sank at St. Regis, they were apprehended while trying to enter the US illegally. Authorities from the US and Canada saved them.

Nil Patel, Dhruv Patel, Urvish Patel, and Savan Patel were four of the six people detained by US border customs who were from different regions of Gujarat’s Mehsana district. The other two came from Patan and Gandhinagar.

According to officials, the agents used a two-step process to convey people to Europe and the US via Mexico and other routes while extorting anywhere between 60 lakhs and Rs 1 crore from those seeking to enter the country illegally.
