Both suspects were just 20 years old and had been discussing an attack similar to the 2015 Paris massacre.
The 20-year-olds from Dearborn Mohmed Ali and Majed Mahmoud rented a U-Haul, bought AR-15s, stocked up on ammo, and planned to hit multiple LGBTQ clubs around metro Detroit on Halloween weekend and called it “Pumpkin Day.” The two used encrypted chats and trained at gun ranges to mimic ISIS-style attacks.
Michigan terror suspects caught plotting an attack
Authorities in Michigan recently arrested two men named Mohmed Ali and Majed Mahmoud after carrying out weeks of surveillance. Mohmed and Majed had their phones tracked, and authorities even monitored their conversations and watched their movements across Metro Detroit. According to prosecutors, the two men intended to carry out a mass shooting on Halloween night and used the code name “pumpkin” for the operation.
The pair had their sights on an area in Ferndale as their primary target, which is known for LGBTQ-friendly bars and businesses. Following the arrests, the FBI claimed that Ali and Mahmoud weren’t working alone, revealing that a juvenile, listed only as “Person 1,” was allegedly assigned to participate in the attack. Investigators managed to raid the home of the suspects and a storage unit and recovered rifles, shotguns, pistols, over 1,600 rounds of ammunition, tactical gear, and GoPro cameras. According to investigators, the pair secretly trained with firearms, stockpiled weapons, and scouted locations that would guarantee maximum casualties.

Both Mohmed Ali and Majed Mahmoud are charged with receiving and transferring, and attempting or conspiring to transfer, firearms and ammunition, knowing and having reasonable cause to believe the weapons and ammo would be used in a federal crime of terrorism. They are also accused of aligning with extremist views consistent with the ideology of ISIS.

Mohmed Ali is a 20-year-old man from Dearborn, Michigan, who was recently arrested as a terror suspect. Ali managed to legally purchase multiple firearms despite being under 21, and according to prosecutors, he rented a storage unit where he kept weapons and tactical gear. Mohmed allegedly used the alias “Bukhari” while discussing the plot with co-conspirators and had sought advice from a local extremist figure to determine the timing of the attack.
Majed Mahmoud biography
Majed Mahmoud is also a 20-year-old man from Dearborn who trained regularly at gun ranges with Ali and purchased over 1,600 rounds of ammunition just shortly before the arrests. According to investigators, he played a key role in planning logistics and obtaining weapons. Just like Ali, Mahmoud had expressed support for ISIS and referenced the Paris attacks as a model.
