Their lives were cut tragically short in the line of duty at Wieambilla yesterday.

The constables Matthew Arnold, aged 26, and Rachel McCrow, aged 29, arrived at the area and sought information about a missing man named Nathaniel Train. When they were confronted by a “hail of gunshots”, with another officer suffering a bullet graze and a fourth surviving was hiding in long grass and following this a neighbor was also gunned down.
A special team of 16 officers then shot dead 3 people following a siege. Speaking on Tuesday, 13.12.22 morning, Carroll expressed the demise of 2 young officers as “devastating”. She stated, ‘she had been to the property that morning to look at the “confronting” scenario and also was briefed on the beginning of the investigation.’
The assailants then lit grass and fire to locate the officer who had hidden there. When a 58 years old man, a neighbor from another property arrived for checking out what was happening, he was also shot and killed on the spot.
The president of the Queensland Police Union, Ian Leavers mentioned about a fundraiser had been set up for their families. “They were really amazing people who were well respected by their colleagues and those who were close to them,” Leavers said.
“I spoke to Matthew’s father last night. It’s hard to see what to say as it was devastating.
“Our thoughts go out to Matthew’s parents and Rachel’s family as well.”
Their names will be added to the police remembrance fame wall in the botanical gardens of Brisbane and in Canberra, he stated.
