In a tragic event on Tuesday, Jason Myers and Chip Tayag who were employees of the TV channel WBTV News passed away in a helicopter crash in South Charlotte, North Carolina along Interstate 77
After the death of Jason Myers and Chip Tayag, the station released a statement, “The WBTV family is grieving a terrible loss,” adding, “Our news helicopter Sky3 crashed a5 mid-day Tuesday with 2 of our colleagues on the board. Meteorologist Jason Myers and pilot Chip Tayag lost their lives. We are now working to comfort their families in this difficult time. We are also appreciating the outpouring of support for our employees and your continued prayers for their families”, the statement says.

Jason Myers and Chip Tayag
Jason Myers was a meteorologist employed with WBTV. He was raised in the counties of the Union and Catawba. Myers pursued his higher education at North Carolina State University where he got his graduate degree in the subject of meteorology with a specialization in communication. Jason Myers’ first employment was with Raleigh-Durham International Airport where he provided the control tower with weather updates.
Before his stint with WBTV, Jason Myers had worked in Abilene, Texas for KRBC-TV, in Richmond, Virginia for WRIC-TV. He also worked in Lexington, Kentucky for ABC 36, where Jason was the Chief Meteorologist.
Myers and his wife Jillian were good friends since their childhood and they were parents to 4 children. Chip Tayag was the pilot of the helicopter, Sky3 which got crashed and resulted in his and Myers’ death. He was serving in this position since 2017. Tayag had an experience of 2 decades flying helicopters.
After the news of this helicopter crash was announced, it came in the limelight that even after so much chaos while flying, Tayag tried to save people’s lives. Tayag even during his dying moments tried to control the helicopter. He made the crash take place far away from a densely populated location. Many people are considering Tayag a hero who has helped in saving lives with his safety measures. When the crash took place many people were driving on the road so all od them were under threat.
