Here is all you need to know about Ivan Toney return date, suspension end date, future, Brentford replacements and training return
Ivan Toney was found guilty of violating the sport Association’s betting rules in May and given an eight-month suspension from participating in sport.
When will Ivan Toney return from his gambling ban for Brentford, suspension end date and replacement
The striker for Brentford was accused with 262 infractions of FA Rule E8, admitted to 232 of them, and 30 of them were later dropped. They pertained to numerous wagers made by Toney on himself to score, his own team to win, and occasionally on his team to lose; but not when the 27-year-old was participating in the game.
The striker’s fine 2022–23 season with Brentford was cut short by the suspension, which came as a shock to him. When, though, will Toney resume working out and playing for the Bees? What does his general future hold for him, too?
When is Ivan Toney back?
Toney will be able to play football again on January 17, 2024, however he can start practising with Brentford as early as September 17, 2023.
In a recent interview with the Diary of a CEO podcast, Toney broke his silence regarding the scandal, talking about the impact it had on his mental health and how eager he was to resume working. He said:
“It’s like a kid at Christmas — I’m counting down the days until I can train and be around the boys, being in football prison at the moment.”
He further said:
Being around the boys [training] it will get a little bit easier but at the end of the week there’s no end goal or reward because you can’t play in the match.”
🚨🚨| Ivan Toney: “None of it was match fixing. I was betting on myself to score first. I’m trying to do the right thing. It’s not like I’m smashing someone to get a yellow card.”

Ivan Toney first game back for Brentford
Assuming he can stay healthy and prepare for a comeback to competitive play, Toney’s first game back will currently be Brentford’s away match against Tottenham Hotspur on January 30, 2024.
He might play in FA Cup action the weekend before that, assuming Brentford advances to the competition’s fourth round.
Of course, Toney might leave Brentford sooner, but it would need clubs to make offers despite the fact that he hasn’t been in a single game all season.
Ivan Toney career stats, goals, contract & transfer rumours
Since Brentford got promoted to the top tier, there has been much debate about Toney’s future as a result of his Premier League performance. He has made a name for himself in the Premier League as a reliable goal scorer and has regularly been linked to groups like Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United. Even in his interview for the Diary of a CEO, he made reference of the first two teams. He said:
The next club I go to if I was to move, it would be the right club.”
“I’ve been a Liverpool fan my whole life but from young, I’ve liked Arsenal, watching Arsenal, how they play and how passionate the fans are.”
