He also reached the finals of WorldT20 in 2012 and 14 and the semi-finals in 2016 of the tournament. Dhoni also had plans to play this edition of the tournament. As the tournament was earlier to be played in 2020.

The BCCI is hoping that Dhoni will be able to assist Kohli in breaking the white-ball rule. According to a BCCI insider, “Jay (Shah) felt that Dhoni was the only guy who could help the squad during the T20 World Cup, therefore he dialed him.”

Furthermore, with Shastri’s contract expiring after the T20 World Cup and the BCCI refusing to extend it, Dhoni’s hiring serves as an ideal stop-gap plan.

Dhoni’s salary has not been disclosed yet but as he’ll be working close to Ravi Shastri and other coaching staff, planning the tactics of the game. He is envisaged to get somewhere close to Rs.50 lacs for the job.
