As Hamlin was being treated on the field after collapsing, his teammates rallied to his aid by forming a human shield around him. Within 10 seconds of his collapsing, Bills team trainers hurried over to the scene and began tending to the player. An ambulance was on the scene in within five minutes. CPR was administered to Hamlin before he was transferred to the hospital.
