The Judicial Investigation Department of Costa Rica has confirmed that the surfer has a seizure in the ocean.

The 24-year-old David suffered from Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. It is a congenital cardiac disorder which can result in seizures and an accelerated heartbeat.

Six years ago, the skateboarder had undergone a heart surgery.
The Judicial Investigation Department of Costa Rica revealed this in a talk show with the Associated Press.
At the time he said, “He was surfing when he apparently suffered some kind of epileptic seizure and drowned.” He further added, “The death is still under investigation.”
In 2012’s ISA World Junior Surfing Championship in Panama David took home the gold medal.
As per his X-games profile he grew up saying and surfing. He could be regarded as an experienced veteran as he started at the age of 14.
Over the years, David has been transparent about his struggle with seizures. In an interview with Stab magazine prior to his 2016’s interview.
At the same time he said, “If it was life or death, and I had to choose skating or surfing, I’d choose death.”
Though it wasn’t the first time when David has suffered from seizure while surfing or skating.
Few years back, David took to his social media and wrote, “I was skating with @max_jenson @tonechapo @travisrivera and all of a sudden I went into a seizure, fell on my face and woke up in an ambulance also my heart stopped.
“I had 3 seizures after that when I got to the hospital. So grateful to be alive!”
David’s younger brother Keoni, naturally shared the following message on his Instagram story which reads, “You are the best brother I could ever ask for. I will miss you Kalani.”
Condolences to the huge community of friends Kalani had coast to coast and across the globe.”
One of the photographers, Peter King, who clicked a lot of pictures and penned down, “Oh man. Love you Kalani. Only God knows His timing. Life isn’t easy. Always battling.”
