As the name implies, the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) is notable for some regulations that are not found in professional cricket but are widely employed in street cricket around India and the world. The Tape-Ball over is one such new addition to professional cricket in the ISPL.
What is a tape ball over in ISPL?
A side may employ the Tape-ball for one or a maximum of two overs throughout an inning, according to the term “Tape-Ball over.” The “Tape Ball,” which is essentially a regular tennis ball with one side coated in tape to make it smooth from that side, is highly popular on Pakistani streets.
The ball will have a greater swing when tape is applied to one side of the ball than when a regular tennis ball is used. Teams can utilize this to break up a partnership or slow the pace of runs in an inning.
A few key new regulations for the ISPL 2024
In addition to the tape-ball over, the Indian Super League (IPL) has implemented additional regulations that bear a resemblance to the common street cricket laws across the globe.
The fans were drawn to some of the novel regulations, such as Tip-Top Toss, in which the captains of the two teams are positioned at a specific distance and must then travel that distance using the tip-to-toe technique. The person who tosses the ball onto the other team’s toes first wins.
Aside from that, the new regulations that will be implemented in the ISPL 2024 include the 9-street runs. This is awarded if the ball lands in the stands; the fifty-fifty over rule, which stipulates that a team sets a target for the other team and deducts runs from the score if the other team is unable to meet it.
