Who is Sameer Rizvi?
Chennai Super Kings demonstrated strategic brilliance by acquiring New Zealand players Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra. However, CSK surprised everyone by investing INR 8.40 crore in the relatively unknown 20-year-old cricketer Sameer Rizvi. CSK outbid Gujarat Titans and Delhi Titans to secure the signature of this Indian batsman. Sameer Rizvi gained attention through his performances in the Uttar Pradesh T20 League 2023, where he captained Kanpur Superstars.
Sameer’s father, Haseen Loiya, is a property dealer, his mother Ruksana Rizvi, is a homemaker and the family lives in Meerut’s Lalkurti. Sameer is a Muslim by religion.
Hailing from Meerut, the 20-year-old right-handed batsman represents Uttar Pradesh in domestic tournaments. He made his First-Class debut in 2020 and has played in two Ranji Trophy matches. Rizvi marked his T20 debut during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022, accumulating 295 runs with an impressive strike rate of 134.70. Notably, he emerged as the top run-scorer for Uttar Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023, gathering 277 runs in just seven innings.
Sameer Rizvi gained prominence during the UP T20 League, where he emerged as the top run-scorer in the tournament with 455 runs in nine innings. Known for his powerful hitting, Rizvi led in sixes for his team, Kanpur Superstars, throughout the league. He recorded two impressive centuries and contributed 84 runs from 50 balls in the final, playing a pivotal role in his team’s victory.
Rizvi’s exceptional batting skills earned him trial opportunities with three IPL franchises, including Punjab Kings. Unfortunately, due to prior commitments with the Under-23 squad of UP, Rizvi had to decline the trials. In his debut appearance for the Under-23s, he showcased his immense potential by scoring 91 runs off 65 deliveries in a one-day match against Rajasthan.
