In Leeds, England, Haaland was born. At that time, Alfie Haaland, his father, was a Leeds United football player in the Premier League. Nevertheless, Erling was only 3 years old when the Haaland family relocated to Norway. The footballer was born a Christian, but many think he’s Muslim.
Haaland celebrated a goal with Mahmoud Dahoud, his teammate at the time, in September 2021. A photograph of that was shared on Twitter by Borussia Dortmund with the words “Alhamdulillah Habibi.” Many people were drawn to Erling’s response. “Alhamdulillah,” he tweeted.
At first, a lot of people believed that Haaland was honoring the beliefs and religion that his friend and teammate practiced. But it wasn’t the only occasion when his tweets led followers to assume he was a Muslim.
Haaland joined Manchester City earlier this year. As he arrived at the beginning of the transfer window, he had to wait a few weeks to make his club debut. On July 21, he received a birthday wish from a Man City official Twitter account. He responded, saying, “Thanks! debut against Bayern, inshallah.”
Now, many would have assumed that the first time he tweeted “Alhamdulillah,” he was only honoring his friend. However, supporters were taken aback when he said “Inshallah,” which is Arabic for “God willing,” on the second occasion because nobody had anticipated Haaland to be an Islamic adherent.
Erling may still be an enthusiast of the faith but not a believer based on his tweets, though. Furthermore, he has previously refrained from disclosing his religion and beliefs in public.
