David Coote suspended

A footage of David Coote allegedly criticizing Liverpool’s performance during a game has been circulating on social media. Coote was reportedly the fourth official during the match and used derogatory language to describe former manager Jurgen Klopp. PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited), which is the group that officiates all Premier League matches is currently investigating the matter. According to an update, the PGMOL has suspended the referee from all duties with immediate effect. Following the incident, many fans have grown curious about Liverpool’s record in matches where Davud Coote officiated or served as the VAR official.

David Coote is paid £48,000 in salary as a Premier League referee. Referees officiating in the English top flight earn roughly £1,116 per match and that’s on top of their annual salary, which can fall between £73,191, £105,257 and £147,258, depending on the experience and quality of the officials.

Liverpool record with Coote as VAR

David Coote has seemingly had more controversial moments with Liverpool while serving as the VAR. In total, David has served as the VAR across 12 matches, eleven of which came in the Premier League. The other match came during the 2020 Community Shield.

Notably, in the second match that David served as VAR, came at Old Trafford where his VAR decision arguably cost Liverpool a victory. During the build-up to Marcus Rashford’s opener, Red Devils defender Victor Lindelof appeared to foul Divock Origi. However, despite the VAR review, Coote chose to uphold the on-field decision and allow the goal.
