What started off as a typical teenage romance and an apparently innocent kiss at the start of the previous year turns into a nightmare and ruins a twelve-year-old’s life. Following a six-month struggle that culminated in mobile phone videos of gang r*pes, the teenager was abused by her first lover in a filthy, dark parking garage close to Vienna Central Station.

According to Florian Finda, senior official of Vienna’s state criminal police office, twelve of the suspects are minors, between the ages of 14 and 18; one is 19, two are under Austria’s age of criminal responsibility, which is 14, and the identities of the other two are unknown. Among them are citizens of Austria, Turkey, Syria, Italy, Bulgaria, and Serbia. According to Finda, they are suspected of seriously abusing minors s*xually and of depicting minors in p*rn(graphic ways.

While the identities of the accused hasn’t been revealed, it is being claimed that after the incident, it was alleged that a Syrian refugee named Abdul blackmailed the girl by saying, “If you have s*x with me, I will delete this video.” According to reports, all the accused are said to be Muslims while the girl is Christian.

The crimes are said to have happened in garages, at the apartments of the perpetrators, and at other places throughout Vienna between February and June 2023. Despite the fact that the s*xual activity was consenting, investigators claimed that force had been used once.

In October, the victim’s mother reported the crime to the police

The girl didn’t confide in her mother for months due to fear and embarrassment. She started investigating herself by looking for the accused abusers online, where she discovered her videos being shared on social networking sites like TikTok and Instagram.

Later, the mother of the victim eventually filed a complaint with the Vienna State Criminal Police Office, Southern Branch. After that, things escalated quickly. During a judicial search, investigators entered over ten homes and took away at least four cell phones.

The 13 known suspects, all of whom are at least 14 years old, were questioned on Thursday, according to Finda, after thorough investigations. A few acknowledged the accusations, but some denied them; one of them was taken into custody for defying the police. Investigators are still going through the content on their phones.

None of the 17 alleged r*pists, nevertheless, are imprisoned. It appears that there are insufficient reasons for an arrest, according to the public prosecutor’s office. The courts now have to decide what to do next, including whether to file an indictment. The accused only face half the maximum penalty for adults because they are all considered juvenile offenders under juvenile criminal law.
