If last week’s John Pork meme wasn’t strange enough, TikTok’s latest trend is perplexing enough to warrant its own explanation article to assist everyone who is, understandably, perplexed.
So, how exactly does it work? The exact origins of the new language are unknown, but each letter of the alphabet has a number assigned to it, which you can add to your Instagram profile alongside the letter ‘o’.
You can then add your preferred combination to your profile using the Instagram notes feature, where it will be visible to people you follow for 24 hours.
But why would you want a number that represents an alphabet letter next to your Instagram handle? To be sure, the concept is a little strange.
However, there is a simple explanation. The idea behind the Instagram notes trend is to use the initial of someone you have a crush on – either to slyly tell them or to subtly announce it to the world.
The letter J is represented by code o45, for example. So, if you wanted to secretly show affection to someone named Jack or Jill, you would use Instagram notes to add the code o45 to your name.
