Kyrie Irving has experienced his share of controversy lately, but he now wants to return to his strengths, know what is the meaning of Hela, the word he used on Twitter
The 8-time NBA All-Star just left the Brooklyn Nets in a highly turbulent deal for the Dallas Mavericks.
What is the reason behind his name Hélà?
Explained what is the meaning of Hela Twitter name used by Kyrie Irving Hela
Irving’s mother, as well as his grandmother, were Lakota natives. His mother, Elizabeth Irving, spent some time living there before she passed away when Kyrie was four years old. On his Twitter page, Kyrie goes by the name Hélà.

The Standing Rock Sioux tribe gave Irving the name in 2018. At a naming ceremony, he spoke and expressed his gratitude for being a part of the family. Asia Irving, Kyrie’s older sister, who goes by the Lakota name Tatanka Winyan, which translates to “Buffalo Woman,” also joined the group.
Irving on Sioux Nation
During the naming ceremony, Kyrie Irving said that there was a certain point in his life where he had almost come to a crossroads with his dad, his sister, his friends, and his grandparents and he had no idea what direction to go into because he had lost a sense of a foundation that he knew he had lost a long time ago.
Knowing that his mother died and left him with a Sioux Nation and Standing Rock family was so strong and empowering. He is glad that he is now a permanent member of it, not just an outside supporter.
Kyrie breaks the Mavericks’ All-Star record
Even though Kyrie Irving joined the Dallas Mavericks less than a month ago, he has already established a Mavericks record that not even Luka Doncic has accomplished. Irving led Team LeBron with 32 points, 15 assists, and 6 rebounds during the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday. By doing so, he surpassed Rolando Blackman’s previous record of 29 for the most points scored by a Maverick in an All-Star Game.
To be fair Luka Doncic isn’t really giving his best in the All-Star Game. He is obviously only there to enjoy and entertain. If he had been sincere, he would have broken the record long ago.
Of course, this does not devalue the accomplishment of Kyrie Irving. In fact, it ought to energise Dallas supporters even more. The seasoned guard continues to demonstrate that he is still a fantastic scorer, which is just the kind of player they need to lessen the burden on Doncic. The Mavs will be terrifying once Irving and Doncic figure out how to complement each other’s strengths in play.
