“Baby Reindeer,” a series Gadd claims is drawn from his real-life experiences, centers on a stalker named “Martha” who obsessively sent him over 41,000 emails, 744 tweets, and 100 pages of letters over several years.

What Did the Woman Say?

However, the woman who inspired the character of Martha insists that Gadd is fixated on her. Speaking under conditions of anonymity, she told Daily Mirror, “He’s using ‘Baby Reindeer’ to stalk me now. I’m the victim here. He’s created an entire show about me.”

“Baby Reindeer” has taken Netflix by storm, quickly soaring to the top spot in 30 countries, including the US. Gadd claims he’s disguised the real person behind the character of Martha so effectively that even she wouldn’t recognize herself.

Despite this, amateur sleuths online have been trying to uncover her identity, ignoring his pleas for privacy.

Richard Gadd’s Instagram Story

On his Instagram story this week, Gadd stated, “People I care about, work with, and respect (including Sean Foley) are getting unfairly caught up in speculation. Please don’t speculate about who the real-life people might be. That’s not the point of our show.”

The media reports noted certain similarities between Martha and an unnamed woman, including alleged instances of harassment.

However, Harvey has denied any connection to Martha’s character, saying that she has “a claim against Netflix” for promoting the series as “a true story.”

“There’s an actress who is supposed to represent me, but I plan to fight Netflix,” Harvey told the media, vowing to represent herself in legal action and promising to “kick their asses.”

Several reports noted that both Martha’s character and the unnamed woman they spoke to have backgrounds in law, are of a similar age, and use sexual innuendo in their communications with Gadd.

In the Netflix series, Gadd also comments on Martha’s complexion and moisturizer and makes a s*xually charged joke at her expense. The unnamed woman said that this joke was about him offering to “fix her curtains,” a euphemism for s*xual relations.

Curtains, in particular meat curtains, are slang for the anatomy of a woman’s genitals and when Donny said that phrase, it was misconstrued as an invitation for s*x with Martha failing to get that it was just a joke.

Despite the similarities, the unnamed woman pointed out discrepancies in the show, asserting that she never referred to Gadd as “baby reindeer,” a nickname that reportedly stemmed from a childhood toy.

The unnamed woman remarked, “I’ve never owned a toy baby reindeer and I wouldn’t have had any conversation with Richard Gadd about a childhood toy either.”

She is contemplating taking legal steps against Gadd, whom she accuses of having “main character syndrome.”

“He always assumes he’s the focus,” she said. “I’m not creating shows about him or talking about him in the press, am I? If he wanted to keep things private, he had the power to do so. Gadd should just stay out of my business.”
