What is the meaning of a gnome on front porch
A complete stranger asked my neighbor if Jon & I were swingers bc I have a gnome on the front porch. Like that’s not a thing! I hope.

Last week I looked it up after the pineapple comment (pineapples are common in the South for a welcome… Not a "welcome"!) And discovered lawn gnomes, pineapples, flamingos and those giant metal stars are all swinger signs. I don't have a metal star.
But have the rest.

Shocking meaning of garden gnome on front porch
While people usually put garden gnomes in their garden or porch as decorative items, it reportedly has another shocking meaning. For several years, people have reportedly kept a gnome outside their homes as a symbol that they’re a swinger. Although the origin of the idea is not clear, it is allegedly well-known in some areas.
Basically, a swinger is someone who takes part in group s*x or swaps their s*xual partners. As such, a person who chooses to keep a gnome outside on their front porch could mistakenly be telling other people that they’re available for a fling. A US-based real estate agent recently shared the information after finding out about it through one of her clients.
She shared an incident about how one of her client’s friend mentioned about checking out neighborhoods with swingers. Upon asking how a person can tell the difference, the friend told her client that homeowners apparently keep garden gnomes on the front lawn as an indicator. Her client then went online to check if it was a joke or real and shockingly found a website, which had all the info about it.
Other swinger symbols
Aside from garden gnomes, several other symbols are also associated with swingers. Some other items associated with swingers are a pineapple door knocker, pampas grass, white rocks, pink flamingos, hot tubs, five-pointed stars as well as brightly colored garden decorations. Although some of the items seem a bit stretched, these are the items listed.
Reactions from online users
Following the shocking reveal, many online user have posted their reactions on social media. One person wrote on Twitter:
Swingers have been using garden gnomes as an indicator?.. leave them alone, bro.”
